Community members always have the best ideas.

How to grow cactus from seeds.

An offline (in the real world) co-experience that got fully booked in less than an hour, has created an engaged group of friends who accompany the process of growing their cactuses together.

In this article, we would like to share our insights on what made this co-experience so successful.

Before we begin, we would like to get you familiar with our language:

Co-experience

A co-experience is when people experience something together. A co-experience can be a live yoga session on Zoom or a volunteer group delivering food to elders under quarantine. Co-experiences can occur online/offline, or both, as long as people gather around experiences, the platform supports it.

Bottom-up

Giving the community members the ability to easily contribute co-experiences (paid/free) creates authenticity, takes off the community managers workload, and creates a mass amount of long-tail co-experiences

Long-tail co-experiences

Long-tail co-experiences are many groups of small quantities that gather around different experiences. In contrast, short-tail co-experiences are a small number of large groups gathering around an experience.

To simplify: going to a Beyonce concert at Madison square garden is a short tail experience.

Attending a DIY macramé plant holder event at your neighbors' house is a long-tail co-experience.

Long-tail co-experiences increase community engagement and provide a new channel for meaningful relationships like we've seen with the group of people growing cactus from seeds.

So what made this event so successful?

  1. Great idea - people these days are striving for unique social interactions, growing plants is a popular trend amongst millennials, but the hook we've seen here was the Arak cocktails(famous Israeli liquor) included in the event. Learning a new skill, spot limitation(FOMO), and Arak cocktails made this event a no brainer.

  2. Passion - anyone reading the short description could see how passionate this dude is about cactuses. Passion creates a sense of trust and loyalty.

  3. Price - the lucky people who were able to book a spot paid $8 for this co-experience, price is an essential factor in the success of communities, especially these days.
